Ski Apartments in Andorra
Andorra’s long been spoken of as one of the cheapest countries to ski in, and self-catering’s a super way to make your money go even further. Usually coming in the form of apartment blocks or aparthotels (where they’re in the same complex of a hotel), the Andorran apartments tend to be simple, modern lodgings - sometimes within a stone’s throw of the nearest lift or piste. Kitchen facilities are often a simple combination of microwave/oven, hob, fridge and kettle – not the kind you’d want to be whipping up a Sunday roast in, but fine if you’re cooking simple comfort food like stir fry or mac & cheese. With eating out being far more affordable than you find in the French and Swiss alps, a lot of skiers and snowboarders use the apartments here as bases for exploring local eateries.
Luxury Andorran Apartments
Cheap luxury is something that duty-free Andorra has down to a tee – you can bag an apartment here with access to a connecting hotel’s hot tubs, saunas and spa centre for a fraction of what it would cost in France or Switzerland. For a week of first class food, use your apartment as a base for working your way around acclaimed local restaurants – head chefs Nandu Jubany and Hideki Matsuhisa at Soldeu’s Hermitage Hotel have a Michelin star each and Arinsal’s Borda Raubert appears in the Michelin guide.
Self-catering in Andorra
Supermarkets like Hiperpas in Pas de la Casa and Moles in Arinsal are on hand for stocking up on essentials, while pastisserias serve freshly baked goods for breakfasts and lunches. If you’re driving from the airport, it might be worth stopping at one of the larger supermarkets in the valley before you make the final climb to your resort – here you’ll usually have more choice and prices can be a little lower.
