Sitting right at the heart of the Milky Way, this quiet town is best suited to a quiet retreat for those focussed on getting straight out on the piste for the world-class Snowsports opportunity of the area.
A blend of traditional architecture and purpose built properties surrounded by some lovely woodland, Sansicario is a two hour transfer from Turin airport and can also be reached by the train to Oulx from which it’s a short transfer.
While this isn’t as big and thriving as other resorts, what atmosphere is lacking in the town is more than made up for on the mountain. The lift and snowmaking systems were recently improved when Sansicario hosted various events in the 2006 Winter Olympics including the women’s downhill – which illustrates the world class skiing that can be enjoyed here.
Sansicario’s main attraction is its excellent ski links to the rest of the Milky Way with its 400km of skiable runs for every level of skier and snowboarder. The Milky Way ski pass gives you the freedom to venture to the neighbouring resorts of Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx and Claviere and you can ski or take the bubble directly over to these. Good road connections mean you can easily venture out to explore these resorts to sample their charming culture and cuisine.
As well as being ideal for the keen skiers, non-skiers will always find something to do. The Olympic bobsleigh is a must for an unforgettable thrill and you can explore further afield on a snowshoe excursion.
The relaxed atmosphere and quiet nightlife here makes it perfect for those wanting laid-back evenings in cosy accommodation to prepare them for long days on the piste. You can’t miss out on sampling the mouth-watering Italian cuisine while you’re here which can be enjoyed in restaurants in the town and on the mountain.
