Highlights: • Outstanding natural features • Pretty village • Extensive walking and bike routes
Up on the Stubai High Path (which bears the prestigious ‘Austrian Hiking Seal of Approval’), Neustift’s an ideal base camp for hikers who have a ‘thing’ for stunning vistas. Scaling the 3500m Zuckerhutl is the highlight of the Seven Summits challenge and it’s always good to pack a picnic for the brilliant Wild Water trail. Guided along the Ruetz River to the mighty Grawa waterfall, you’ll even find a viewing platform with giant wooden sunbeds...
Take the family over to Fulpmes, where there’s a new 1km adventure path from the famous Panorama Lake (said to have one of the best views in the Alps) to the playground at the Schlickeralm, with barefoot areas, tunnels, slides and a rope bridge along the way.
You’ll find 11 ‘RunWalkPark’ paths for Nordic walkers in the valley – the nearest to the village are the short and easy Moos tour and the Franz-Senn lauf (named after the famous priest and mountaineer). The long Stubai line from Krößbach also passes through the village for more of a challenge.
With over 720km of MTB paths ranging from gnarly singletrack to flowing trails, the Stubai Valley has more than enough riding to get the blood pumping. There are 20 MTB trails in Stubai, with a nice split between easy, medium and hard difficulties. One of the top routes has to be the non-stop climb of the Rinner Alm trail; afterwards, join the bros and betties at the bike park, where there’s northshore, jumps and berms.
If you’re more Bradley Wiggins sideburns then Brook Macdonald berms, check out the asphalt route on the main road through the Stubai Valley all the way to the foot of the Stubai Glacier Cable Car.
E-bikes are rapidly gaining popularity and with over 20 rental locations in Tirol, you can enjoy the region on two wheels with battery-power doing the hard work for you.
