Highlights: • Pretty resort • Walks along the river Lech • Themed hiking routes
There are 61 marked hiking and walking trails, starting from either the town, a couple of bus stops away or one of the lift stations. If the sun’s out, hike the 8km Lake Zürsersee route, a circuit trail with a great uphill climb at the start around Lech and Zürs. For a real challenge, the 14.8km Klösterle - Wald am Arlberg is excellent for a tough day out on the mountain. The route has an 1158m ascent/descent and the high elevation means stunning mountain vistas of the Rohnspitze peak and Spullersee Lake. There are some terrific trails from the town: we love the 4km walk that follows the Walkerback River to a waterfall. There are 11 Nordic Walking paths if you’ve packed your poles: the 1.4km Lech-Promenade is a nice warm up; progress to the 6.9km 2-Täler-Runde before attempting the difficult 11.6km Lechufer-Lauf.
There are five devised bike tours from Lech, totalling 101.8km of cycling. The toughest is without a doubt the ‘Around the Karhorn’, a 23.7km trail which begins in Lech, climbs 1174m up the mountain and reaches its peak at 2037m. The ride takes you well above the tree line so you get great views of the Schrofen pass, Gehren and Lechleiten. If you prefer flying downhill, catch the lift up to the Burgwald Trail where there’s a 1km white-knuckle singletrack, packed with jumps and wall-rides.
Outside of Lech, the Voralberg region can be explored on a road bike with nearby Zürs, Stuben and Warth all reachable in a couple of hours.
E-bikes can be rented in town and are brilliant for a more relaxing ride with the batteries taking on a decent amount of the strain!
