We love Sirmione in September when the heat and crowds of the summer months have lost their intensity, leaving a comfortable, balmy climate with more space to enjoy the idyllic lakeside surroundings. Sirmione is warm and summerlike in September with a small amount of rainfall on about 8 days of the month and offers something to do whatever the weather.
To enjoy the September sunshine, Sirmione has some lovely beach areas with lake activities if it’s warm enough to enjoy the water and there’s a pleasant lakeside walk around the peninsula. You can’t stay in Sirmione without exploring the castle (go up the tower for an amazing lake view) and if you’re caught in a rainy spell, there are lots of galleries and shops to explore. Sirmione’s famous thermal springs can be enjoyed at Terme Catullo, Terme Vergil and the indoor Aquaria wellness centre for a real treat at this time of year.
Because of its southern position on the lake, Sirmione can be a little hot for some in July and August, so September is a brilliant time to go when the milder climate means you can really appreciate the area. The town’s shelter from wind still leaves it feeling slightly warmer than other Lake Garda towns, so if you want to visit somewhere cooler still, try Riva or Torbole.
