If you like your summer holidays hot but still want the Lake Garda experience, stay in Sirmione in July. Situated on the very south of Lake Garda, Sirmione is the place to stay if you like to feel the best of Lake Garda’s sun and with July being the hottest month, you’ll enjoy a real Mediterranean feel summer here.
Surrounded by the lake on three sides, Sirmione has some lovely beach areas for spending hot days on the lake including the Lido delle Bionde where you can sunbathe, swim as well as hire peddolos or kayaks for fun in the water. You can also hire motorboats in Sirmione for a trip around the peninsula or to visit other parts of Lake Garda.
You don’t need to worry about being trapped in the heat of the day with nothing to do in Sirmione – there’s shady countryside including some lovely olive groves and vineyards to wander around and you can walk along the walls of the 13th century Rocca Scaligera castle. In the cooler parts of the day, you can play golf on Chervò Golf San Vigilio’s amazing 9 and 27 hole courses and visit the ruins of the Roman villa. Evenings here are lovely and warm in July – brilliant for dining al fresco and after dinner strolls around the resort.
The Regata delle bisse takes place in Sirmione in July, adding a fantastic atmosphere to the town. This race of Venetian-style boats is a long standing tradition and is a really fun thing to watch if you’re staying in Sirmione at the time.
We love Sirmione’s southern position in the summer months and if you want to be near the water it’s fantastic. If you’d rather stay somewhere with closer access to the mountains, try Maderno and Malcesine or for a larger Italian town, stay in Riva.
