We love Lake Garda for mid-week breaks and long weekends – sure you could easily spend weeks exploring the place, but the transport links make it super for short breaks too.
Verona-Villafranca (VRN) is the closest airport, about half an hour’s drive from Peschiera, Bardolino, Garda and Desenzano, then only an hour or so to the other resorts (though bear in mind coach transfers can take a little longer). Flights to Verona from London take about 2 hours and run quite regularly, usually giving you a choice of arrival and departure times that suit you.
Once here, there’s oodles to see and do, whether you’re here for three days, four or five. The sun shines bright from May to September, with walks, bike rides and lounging by the lake being favourite activities. If it does rain, you’ll find museums, churches, shops and cafes to explore. Day trips to Verona and Venice are easily doable if you want to pack in a different destination or two into your short stay – hiring a car can come in handy here, or staying in Peschiera or Desenzano which have their own train stations.
Our short break accommodation includes hotels, chalets and apartments in a range of ratings, letting you choose somewhere to stay that suits you. If you want to experience culture and cuisine in local restaurants, a room-only, self-catered or B&B option might be best, or if you’d rather have your meals planned and paid for before you arrive, book half board, full board or all-inclusive. Some hotels have swimming pools and spas which make welcome luxuries for your time away, making sure you come home relaxed and well-rested.
Of course, 3 and 4 night packages don’t always mean you have to head straight home after a short stay. To extend your holiday, you can use our short breaks to create a multi-centre stay, combining other Lake Garda resorts, stopping off at another Italian lake or city or staying elsewhere in Europe.
