Lake Garda is quite hot in June, so if you like to keep cool, you’ll want to stay somewhere north - and you can’t get more north than Riva. With a lovely breeze to take the edge off the heat, Riva is a popular resort during the warmer summer months. It’s also thought to be Europe’s windsurfing capital, attracting both pros and first timers and hosts sailing regattas throughout the summer (Regattas in June include the Eurocup and Terra e Mare cup). As well as being great for water sports, Riva has some excellent mountain biking trails and walking routes.
You don’t have to have a holiday full of action to enjoy Riva in June. It has some lovely waterfront gardens as well as a large clean pebble beach where you can swim in the lake. Golfers will enjoy the Golf Club Parallelo which is high up above Riva and offers some fantastic views. You can enjoy a gentle walk to Torbole along the promenade and there’s also a brilliant range of shops.
Riva hosts the Garda Jazz Festival in June and July which adds a great atmosphere to the resort with some very groovy evening gigs and a beach parade. We love that there’s so much going on in Riva at this time of year and the place is perhaps the most rich in contemporary culture, but if you want to stay somewhere quieter or more historic, try Malcesine or Gardone Riviera or for a warmer resort, stay in Sirmione.
