Malcesine is (quite rightly in our opinion) one of Lake Garda’s more popular resorts, so booking a holiday in May is a great way to avoid the busyness that comes with the heights of summer and school holidays. There are some great walking and mountain biking trails in Malcesine and May is a brilliant time to go here if you want to enjoy them in milder weather (walking in Malcesine’s hotter months can be less comfortable). For a lovely walk in Malcesine, take a stroll down the promenade, wander around the famous castle or ramble up the hills between the olive groves. Taking the cable car to Monte Baldo with your bike or walking poles is an absolute must on clear days, make sure you wrap up warm as it can get quite chilly higher up and don’t forget your camera – the views are amazing!
Malcesine isn’t only amazing on clear days; there’s still a huge amount to enjoy in if you find yourself in a rainy spell. There’s a great natural history museum in the Castle as well of lots of shops, cafes and exhibitions for indoor activities in Malcesine.
Malcesine’s weather in May is brilliant if you prefer a milder climate or struggle in the heat of an Italian summer but, for a warmer stay in Lake Garda, visit Malcesine in July or August or, if you want to get away in May but prefer it hotter, visit a more southern resort such as Sirmione or Lazise.
