September is a wonderfully relaxed month to stay in Lazise, when Lake Garda has waved goodbye to the summer heat and crowds and offers a quieter environment, with more space and time to appreciate the surroundings. Lazise in July and August is still a pretty laid back place, but this is a truly beautiful spot on the lake so September is the time to visit if you want to really get away from it all.
For us Lazise is one of our favourite places to visit at any time of year, but a little too limited to actually holiday here. We’d rather book our accommodation in a nearby resort like Garda or Bardolino, where there’s a little more going on, and use the terrific (and cheap) local bus, lake ferry or relax lakefront paths, to pop in to visit Lazise for the day.
The weather in Lazise in September is warm and summerlike and with the town‘s southern position making it feel warmer than other Lake Garda resorts, this is a brilliant place to stay if you’re seeking a somewhere that still feels like summer in early autumn. There’s something see at whatever pace suits you during your holiday; for relaxing holidays in the sunshine, Lazise has an attractive harbour where you can sit and watch the world go by as well as narrow streets with medieval walls which are lovely to wander round and a fantastic piazza where you’ll find shops, cafes and pizzerias. For some serious September relaxation, visit the Thermal Park Garda.
Located at the foot of the moraine hills and with some lovely lakeside paths, there are lots of walks and cycle rides around Lazise if you want to take advantage of September’s cooler temperatures and get active. In terms of things to see, Lazise has some fantastic historical buildings and September is a good time to see these when there are less tourists. The lakeside Scaliger Castle is a great visit as well as the famous 14 century Dogana Veneta on the main square.
If you book your holiday in Lazise over the end of September and beginning of October, head over to nearby Bardolino for the wine festival that usually takes place at this time of year.
Lazise’s warm weather and quieter atmosphere at this time of year make September a great time to stay here. For somewhere cooler or sportier, visit Torbole or chic favourite Riva del Garda.
