September is our favourite time to experience the peace and quiet of one of the lake’s prettiest resorts. The Gardone weather here is pleasantly warm in September. Having cooled from the hot summer months but retaining a generous helping of sunshine, the September climate makes this a brilliant time to stay if you want to spend your holiday discovering the area without getting too hot.
While Gardone Riviera tends to be busier during July and August, time seems to go by at a slower pace in September is perfect if your holidays are focused on relaxing. While holidays in Lake Garda’s sportier resorts are action-packed with adrenaline pumping activities, getaways here are all about gentle walks among the trees, afternoons wandering around the town, exploring shops and local history and tasty treats in charming cafes and gelaterias.
Gardone Riviera is home to some of the top Lake Garda attractions and visiting these in September when the summer crowds have diminished allows more intimate and unhindered exploration. André Heller’s botanical gardens are an absolute must visit and the Vittoriale Degli Italiani museum where Gabriele D’Annunzio lived is a popular place to see. Our top tip is to seek out St Nicolo church with its’ engaging artwork.
Holidays in Gardone Riviera are all about enjoying the peace and quiet and, if you prefer more of a town atmosphere that retains a real buzz throughout September, visit Desenzano or Riva.
