Gardone Riviera is perfect for a warm, gently paced summer holiday in one of Lake Garda’s most picturesque towns. While Lake Garda can get quite hot in August, Gardone Riviera’s sheltered position means it is slightly cooler than some of the more southern resorts, which makes it an excellent place to stay if you’d prefer milder summer temperatures.
With two of Lake Garda’s main attractions, Gardone is a brilliant place to base your holiday if you like sightseeing. Gabriele D’Annunzio’s house is here and the town is also home to Heller’s famous botanical gardens which are stunning in the summer. If you take the tourist train up to Gardone Sopra there are some lovely walks around the area as well as fantastic views over the lake.
As well as offering lots to see in the town itself, Gardone has a central position on the lake, giving easy access via land or water to other lakeside resorts. Salo and Maderno are the nearest resorts on either side of Gardone and both offer a lovely day. Maderno in particular has a lovely sandy beach if you fancy a day by the water.
There are some fantastic events in Gardone Riviera in August, including dance and music performances at the Vittorale theatre. Gardone Riviera is an excellent base for a peaceful holiday at this time of year and, if you’d like to visit one of the larger towns with a livelier atmosphere, have a look at Riva or Desenzano.
