Holidays in Hinterglemm

Bursting with Alpine charm – thanks to its traditional chalet town and sloping, tree-lined valley, Hinterglemm’s an attractive base for an active break in Austria. A total 400km of walking and cycling trails sprawl forth from the village, whilst the Pinzgau and Tauern bike circuits are also within easy reach. Attracting daring hikers throughout the season, the Seven Summits of Saalbach-Hinterglemm loom over the town, though there’s no shortage of gentler routes (with the obligatory Gasthof stop) for casual walkers to explore too.

Hinterglemm Walking

Home to an incredible Seven Summits tour and linking up with 400km of trails, Hinterglemm’s one of the country’s hiking greats. Covering both the Pinzgauer Grasberge and the Glemm Valley, the expansive routes take hikers over a blend of terrain that’s both brilliantly varied and mind-blowingly-beautiful. Ever popular with Nordic walkers, the trails up from the resort are fantastic places to swing your poles, while families will love some of the relaxed walking paths. One good walk, Montelino’s Adventure, gets kids trekking from the mid station of the Kohlmaisgipfelbah, while the Zwolferkogel has a flat circuit about its summit. Europe’s highest treetop passage can also be found here - spanning 1km, it leads to the 200m long ‘Golden Gate of the Alps’ bridge.

Hinterglemm Cycling

Nicknamed ‘The Bike-Circus’, the Saalbach-Hinterglemm region has 400km of marked trails and there’s an expansive 720km network of cycling and mountain-biking routes beyond that. If downhill is your thing, take one of the 5 lifts that transport bikes onto the mountain. Starting off in Hinterglemm, the beginner Blue Line trail is a good one to get the rust off before moving on to the Adidas Freeride Pro Line run, a flowing path packed with northshore.

The village is also part of the biggest E-Bike region in the world, so even those who haven’t trained for the uphill can experience the mountain with the help of an electric motor.
