It’s a cool and snowy start to March in the Alps, and there’s MUCH more to come!
The white stuff is due especially thick and fast on Friday evening and Saturday morning in most French resorts, providing oodles of fresh powder for the lucky devils skiing next week. Italy is getting a good dusting, with the Milky Way already seeing half a metre of snow over the last 3 days.
Here’s what ten of our favourite resorts looked like earlier today:
Meribel, France
Temperature: -8°C to 4°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 180cm
Snow in resort: 90cm
Current weather: Heavy snow this afternoon, bringing the daily pile up to around 15cm. More snow is forecast over next few days, including a big dump of over 20cm on Saturday.
Cervinia, Italy
Temperature: -9°C to 5°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 255cm
Snow in resort: 95cm
Current weather: You’ll find plenty of the white stuff falling in Cervinia at the moment – there’s been 30cm of snowfall in the last 3 days and tomorrow should see about 18cm of snowfall. The weather man’s predicting even more to come on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
Courchevel, France
Temperature: -7°C to -2°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 180cm
Snow in resort: 131cm
Current weather: Overcast with oodles of snow (a good 15cm+ by the end of today) and the freezing point hovering around 1500m. Big snow’s due on Thursday and Saturday mornings (20cm is expected on Sat), with winds calming down as we near the weekend.
Saas-Fee, Switzerland
Temperature: -15°C to -1°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 350cm
Snow in resort: 120cm
Current weather: A socking great 40cm of snow fell yesterday in glorious Saas. Today’s seen another snow filled afternoon, and there’s much more snow to come – especially on Saturday when they’re expecting to see 23cm of new snowfall.
Courmayeur, Italy
Temperature: -12°C to 6°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 210cm
Snow in resort: 94cm
Current weather: Super snowy over the next few days: 15cm of fresh snow is predicted by the end of today, then over 20cm is due tomorrow, followed by a light dusting on Friday and another 20cm+ on Saturday.
Les Arcs, France
Temperature: -8°C to 3°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 282cm
Snow in resort: 112cm
Current weather: It’s snowing in the Paradiski, with the freezing level at 1800m and about 15cm due to fall by the end of the day. Thursday morning is expected to see a big dump, with even more of the same on Saturday.
Solden, Austria
Temperature: -4°C to 7°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 302cm
Snow in resort: 15cm
Current weather: Cloudy with 5cm of fresh snow so far and heavy snowfalls due this evening. The snowfall looks set to continue, with the forecast of a seriously snowy Saturday afternoon where the grand total is expected to be around 30cm.
Tignes, France
Temperature: -11°C to -2°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 300cm
Snow in resort: 165cm
Current weather: So snowy (over 25cm predicted today!) – with a touch of sun late afternoon. Better yet – there should be a similar ammount of white stuff over the next couple of days. Friday night’s due to be really snowy, and the flakes should continue falling on Saturday morning.
Sestriere, Italy
Temperature: -4°C to 3°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 80cm
Snow in resort: 50cm
Current weather: Sestriere has seen a whopping 50cm of fresh snow in the last three days, and there are heavy snow storms this afternoon. Friday night is expected to see more dumpings, followed by 20cm or so of snowfall on Saturday morning.
Val Thorens, France
Temperature: -8°C to -4°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 250cm
Snow in resort: 150cm
Current weather: VT has 22cm of new snow today and expects about the same tomorrow. Big dumps are due on Friday night and Saturday morning, with moderate snow falling either side.
