SNO news is GOOD news: Sun + Snowy Easter!
It’s been cloudy in parts of the Alps leading into this first Easter week, with the highest resorts seeing a flurry of flakes.
Other parts are gloriously sunny with knock-your-ski-socks-off views…
Things came together perfectly on Easter Sunday, when heavy falls were consolidated with temperature drops later on!
Here’s what 10 of our favourite resorts looked like earlier today:
Val Thorens, France
Temperature: -10°C to -4°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 280cm
Snow in resort: 160cm
Current conditions: After scouring VT’s webcams this lunchtime, this was the only one that wasn’t a total white out of cloud and snow. It hasn’t stopped 81/81 of the pistes open, which are reportedly covered in fresh snow. Heavy snow is scheduled for Easter Sunday to form a nice base for the week after – great for burning off all those chocolate eggs…
Zermatt, Switzerland
Temperature: -16°C to 1°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 225cm
Snow in resort: 10cm
Current conditions: Light snow up at Klein Matterhorn this morning, then sunshine later on. Clear and sunny tomorrow, with a cloudy and snowy Good Friday to follow. The snow sticks around on the Theodor glacier, well into summer – so the end of the season should be fabulous.
Lech and Zurs, Austria
Temperature: -2°C to 0°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 185cm
Snow in resort: 105cm
Current conditions: Keeping up Lech’s rep for getting more snowfall than anywhere else in Austria (or the Alps for that matter) there’s snow, snow, snow, then a bit more snow over the next few days, with temperatures dropping a few degrees over Thurs and Fri. After that, a bit of sun on Easter day.
Saas-Fee, Switzerland
Temperature: -6°C to 1°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 320cm
Snow in resort: 105cm
Current conditions: Sun today, and more sun tomorrow, showing off the best of the 4000m+ peaks that surround the village. But after that the weather man’s predicting a good dousing of snow – and if previous years are anything to go by, the white stuff on the Allalin glacier will stay well into the summer for sunny July ski days.
Obergurgl, Austria
Temperature: -9°C to 0°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 177cm
Snow in resort: 28cm
Current conditions: 105km of 110km runs open and being dusted with fresh snow today. The weather’s expected to be replaced with sun and cloud tomorrow. Then thick clouds on Friday night are expected to bring some extra cover.
Tignes, France
Temperature: -11°C to -5°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 240cm
Snow in resort: 143cm
Current conditions: Sun, cloud and light snow with 150/154 pistes open. A bit of snow due on Friday, and more on the menu for Easter Sunday evening… Yippee!
Solden, Austria
Temperature: -9°C to 1°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 290cm
Snow in resort: 10cm
Current conditions: The snow gods are being their usual generous selves on Solden’s 2 glaciers and 3 3000m+ peaks. 31 of 33 runs are open and it’s all about the snow today. The sun’s expected to have its hat on for 3-5 hours each day over the next few days, building up to a gloriously sunny Easter Sunday – then a snowy Easter Sunday night.
Courchevel, France
Temperature: -9°C to -1°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 192cm
Snow in resort: 138cm
Current conditions: Le Panoramic bar isn’t doing as it’s name suggests today – Courchevel’s been overcast, with dustings of snow over the next couple of days. Heavy snow predicted on Sunday evening.
Flaine, France
Temperature: -7°C to -5°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 358cm
Snow in resort: 123cm
Current conditions: 56 out of 64 slopes open at the moment in a cloudy, sunny Flaine. Things should be the same tomorrow and Saturday, but Good Friday and Easter Sunday are expected to be snowy, with more cover on Tues and Weds next week. Three cheers for the Mont Blanc microclimate!
Meribel, France
Temperature: -9°C to 3°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 192
Snow in resort: 78
Current conditions: There’s a reason those deckchairs are empty: 60/63 of the local runs have been open today, so snow lovers have been skiing in a mix of cloud, sun and snowflakes. More snow due Sunday night 🙂 .
