Dump Alert ! Massive Snow all Week
March has started with some fabulous conditions ! >> this week began with dumps across the French Alps and ended with fresh falls in Austria, while most of the French resorts have been doused in dazzling sunshine.
Here’s how a dozen of our favourite resorts have looked over the past few days:
Tignes >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -5°C to -2°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 270cm (yes nearly 3 metres deep!)
Snow in resort: 140cm
Current conditions: There was 5cm of fresh snow on Thursday, with a total of 20cm having fallen over the past few days. The weekend is due to see wall to wall sunshine, perfect for enjoying the fresh conditions.
Obergurgl >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -1.5°C to 2°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 172cm
Snow in resort: 45cm
Current conditions: There’s been 30cm of fresh snow in the last day or so. 92km of the ski area is open including all the valley runs.
Alpe d’Huez >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -6°C to 10°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 270cm (nearly 3 metres again!)
Snow in resort: 160cm
Current conditions: Since 15cm of fresh snow on Tuesday, Alpe has been its usual sunny self. Conditions are expected to be glorious over the weekend.
Courchevel >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -2°C to 11°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 190cm
Snow in resort: 130cm
Current conditions: 40cm of snow fell on Courchevel at the beginning of the week and the weather is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud over the next few days.
La Plagne >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -3°C to 15°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 3000cm (OMG! 3 metres up top!)
Snow in resort: 140cm
Current conditions: Thanks to a good dose of fresh snow on Tuesday, 81% of the pistes are open in La Plagne. More cover is forecast on the higher slopes on Monday.
La Rosiere >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: 0°C – 2°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 290cm (3 metres again!)
Snow in resort: 215cm
Current conditions: After a decent top up of the white stuff on Wednesday, 34 of 38 lifts are running in La Ros, which is cloudy with some sunshine. It looks like there will be more snow from Sunday to keep things fresh.
Les Arcs >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -3°C to 5°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 3000cm (3 metres again! it’s going to be an awesome April too!)
Snow in resort: 140cm
Current conditions: A whopping 3 metres of cover can be found on the highest slopes here, and at the moment 113 pistes are open. The weather’s a mix of sun, clouds and low temperatures, with the same expected over the weekend.
Meribel >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -9°C to 7°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 209cm
Snow in resort: 85cm
Current conditions: Meribel was enjoying 7cm of fresh snow on Thursday and the weather has been sunny with a spot of clouds. Most of the runs are open and there’s now over two metres of snow up top.
Mayrhofen >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -2°C to 0°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 100cm
Snow in resort: 0cm
Current conditions: There was snow all day on Thursday in Mayrhofen, with more sprinklings expected on Friday then a sunny Saturday. With temperatures below freezing, the snow cannons (which cover the whole area) are still able to top things up. All of the lifts are running at the moment.
Serre Chevalier >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -1°C to 0°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 180cm
Snow in resort: 40cm
Current conditions: After a snowy Tuesday, Serre Chev. has had fabulous visibility over the past few days. More of the same is expected over the weekend, with a fresh dusting of snow expected on Monday.
Sölden >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: -5°C to 2°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 271cm (almost 3 metres!)
Snow in resort: 20cm
Current conditions: Thursday was a snowy one in Sölden so visibility wasn’t 100% and the glacier area was closed, but pretty much all of the other lifts have been running. Forecasters are predicting a sunny Friday and weekend, with a top up of snow on Monday.
Val d’Isere >> chalets | hotels
Temperature: 0°C to 9°C
Snow @ top of ski area: 270cm (almost 3 metres yet again!)
Snow in resort: 140cm
Current conditions: The last snow in Val was on Wednesday, which has left a fresh layer for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy under a mix of clouds and sunshine over the next few days.
