SNO News is GOOD News >> Ski Resorts with good Snow for Christmas
As high streets heave, noses run and office parties peter out, we know where you’d we rather at Chistmas >> in the mountains! After huge snowfall through November, here are the resorts doing a great job of holding onto the white stuff and grooming it to pisted perfection. Hurry off to one of our 10 faves and you’ll find tonnes of runs open for a jolly good time on the hill. You’ll also get out of secret Santa… SNO ho ho…
Tignes
79% of Tignes’ slopes are skiable, including 5 green runs, 28 blues, 18 red runs and 8 black pistes – more than enough to keep you busy on the mountain. There’s 135cm snow on the top slopes, 40cm at the bottom and temps around -6°C.
Sölden
118.3km of Sölden’s 144.7km of slopes are skiable which, to do the math, is 81% of the ski area. 135cm of snow has been recorded up on the glaciers and 10cm down in resort. Temps are ranging from -2°C to -4.2°C.
Val Thorens
Ever faithful, 69 of Val Thorens’ 85 slopes have opened their doors today, with all but 1 of the lifts running. You’ll find 135cm of snow at the top of the 3 Valleys and 60cm in resort. Throughout the 3 Valleys ski area, 158 pistes are skiable.
Val d’Isere
Of the 167 pistes in Val d’Isere, 115 have been skiable. 58/77 lifts are running, there’s 135cm of the white stuff up top, and around 30cm in resort.
Dolomiti Superski
Thanks to absolutely awesome snowmaking, the Dolomiti Superski has 691km of terrain currently skiable, including both directions of the Sella Ronda circuit.
Obergurgl
99km (out of 110km) of Obergurgl’s pistes are open – that’s 90% of the ski area. Temperatures are low, around -3.1°C on the slopes. Rejoice! That means more snow to come.
Sestriere
Light snow has been forecast in Sestriere, and the weather man predicts more next week. With temperatures between -13°C and -3°C hopefully it’ll stick around. Currently more than half of the pistes are open, which is not at all bad for the Via Lattea this time of year.
Zell am See
63% of the Schmitten area and 80% of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier were open today, both of which have seen 10cm of fresh snow.
Cervinia
Yippee! Pretty much all of the Breuil Cervinia and Zermatt area is completely open, even down to Valtourneche. 160cm is the total snow depth up at the summit, with 30cm in resort.
Les Arcs
70 pistes and more than 100km of terrain have been skiable today, most at the top of the ski area round Arc 2000. There’s a good metre of the white stuff up top, and lows of -6°C should keep things in good condition.
