18 years of McSkiing
Has it really been 18 years since the birth of the McSki? Though it feels like only yesterday, it was back in 1996 that the McDonald’s empire reached out to the skiing world, establishing the first ever ski-through fast-food restaurant in the Swedish resort of Lindvallen. Unfortunately we don’t have any embarrassing pictures of the McSki through the years, but we do have this rather lovely shot from our friend Ola:
Who knows what lies in store for the famous branch, now it’s officially an adult — dare we hope for the pitter patter of little Mcski feet?
Well, while we wait, those who can be bothered to remove their skis will find the traditional walk-in restaurants in a select few ski resorts…
Forget tartiflette ―bag a Big Mac in Megeve, a Double Cheeseburger in Chamonix or a Sundae in Serre Chevalier on your next ski holiday in France.
Swap fondue for those salty Fries in Switzerland’s Zermatt and Interlaken, or if you’re in Austria, wave Auf Wiedersehn to schnitzel for a McFlurry in St Johann, a Filet-o-Fish in Kitzbühel or a McMuffin in Zell am See.
Escudella is so passé in Andorra’s Pas de la Casa, so you might as well eat McNuggets all week. Of course, a cheeky burger where it all began in America’s always tempting… There’s a Maccy D’s in Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Winter Park and Jackson Hole or you can cross the border to Canada for a Chicken Legend in Banff, Whistler or Mont Tremblant.
