Grand Hotel Gardone is a landmark hotel. It stretches out along the lake and has been welcoming guests since 1884 including politicians, Hollywood stars and even royalty. You can see its history as you walk down the halls – keep an eye out for the pictures that show the hotel when it had just opened.
The hotel is as grand as you would expect. High ceilings have crystal chandeliers and there’s marble throughout the hallways. The bar is one of the most opulent that we’ve been in and has live piano music most nights. It’s named after Winston Churchill who used to love relaxing here with a cigar and a glass of Pol Roger, his favourite champagne. The rooms have a more comfortable elegance and some have been refurbished in a modern style. Whichever you choose, you’ll be able to enjoy lake views from your balcony.
The outside areas of the hotel are even more spectacular than the inside. The wide terrace is right on the lakefront. Pull up a chair here and order a drink – you’ll want to stay all day. Take a swim in the heated pool or head to the sunbathing terrace to top up your tan. A poolside attendant will make sure you have everything you need. When you want to explore, Gardone’s historic centre is right on the doorstep and Heller Botanical Gardens are close by too. The hotel can organise activities like cycling, tennis and boat hire. Head back here for dinner and enjoy gourmet food on the terrace. Make sure you ask the sommelier for their wine recommendations too.
Transfer time: approx. 1 hour 30 mins by coach from Verona airport.
