With fairy lights, ancient buildings and snow dusted trees, Bad Kleinkirchheim is the stuff Christmas Stories are made of. The early season snow cover is usually good - with the ski area being on top of grass land, it needs less snow than other resorts to be skiable and thanks to 97% of the ski area being covered by eight hundred snow cannons, there’s always an extra boost available if needed. On a clear day, head over to the St Oswald side for some sunny intermediate skiing from Spitzegg and Brunnach. If visibility is poor, there are some lovely runs through the trees like the gloriously long blue Priedröfabfahrt.
Dip into in the resort’s traditional festivities with different advent events held yearly, often involving carolling, Glühwein and plenty of roasted chestnuts... Austria is famed for its Christmas markets, with Bad Kleinkirchheim being no exception. The regional crafts are perfect for some last minute stocking fillers you won’t find on the high street back home. In recent years, there’s been a petting zoo and postbox for kids to post letters to the “Christkind”, leaving no excuse for anyone not to get into the festive spirit!
