· 5 minutes' downhil walk to the Schattberg gondola · 5 minutes' downhill walk to resort centre
The Pension Schattberg is a bit of a dark horse when it comes to accommodations in Saalbach. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel with all whistles and bells then look elsewhere, but if you want great value - with all the essentials - in one of Austria’s most fun resorts then this is a great choice.
The Schattberg can be ski-to-door for good skiers, in the right conditions. Otherwise its only a few minutes to and from the Schattberg Xpress on foot and a little further into town – just be aware the walk back to the pension is a little bit uphill, so make sure you do your lunges before you set off.
The Hofmann family have created a nice, warm and homely atmosphere here. Overall the Schattberg is simply furnished and the rooms have a fairly typical Alpine feel to them, but there are a few nice touches dotted about that keep it feeling fresh.
And as a bonus there’s a small wellness area with a sauna and steam room for re-energising after a good ski.

Austrian twin beds
Austrian twin beds are very common in Central Europe. They’re simply one large bed frame containing two single mattresses, both with separate duvets and linen sets, that cannot be separated. Separate twin beds are less common and can often be head to head beds, rather than side by side, if they are available.
· continental buffet breakfast
Many Austrian hotels do not serve free tap water with meals.
•Huge linked resort •Modern lift system •Austrian après experience
The hills are a hive of activity in Saalbach - the liveliest base in the glorious Glemmtal valley, it often plays host to festivals and World Cup events. The SkiCircus puts 270km of groomers at your twin tips, with high speed lifts linking pistes and powder for all sorts of skier and boarder.
