Neilson - full name ‘Nielson Active Holidays’ - take the stereotypical idea of relaxation being achieved by a ‘lay around doing nothing holiday’ and lob it right out of the window! With the motto of ‘relax as hard as you like’, these guys do a sterling job of showing that relaxation can also be accomplished spending a long day gliding down snowcapped mountains – sounds good to us!

When it comes to getting there, you’ve a choice of flights from several UK airports. There’s a range of accommodation to pick between, in the form of chalets and hotels.

Families are well-looked after on these packages - when we last checked, several resorts had children’s clubs for sprogs aged 4 months - 12 years.

Neilson Chalets

Chalets from this supplier generally cater for somewhere between 4 and 24 guests, which works for small families all the way up to large groups. They’re designed to be comfortable and homely habitats with the added extra of a chalet host to take care of the things at home you might want a break from – most notably cleaning and catering. Lots will include a sauna or steam room, and many come with the cosy, aromatic warmth of an open fireplace. Your hosts prepare a daily supply of a substantial breakfast, afternoon tea with snacks, and - on 6 days out of 7 - an evening meal with wine.

Neilson take great pride in their handful of properties across Europe. Last time we checked, all were under 350m from lift bases and came with stylish en-suite rooms. Mostly rated 3 or 4 stars, they often have lounges and wellness facilities like a spa and pool. Food’s included, usually in the form of half-board catering, meaning you won’t need to worry about where your next meal will be coming from.

If you’re in an even-number group, you might score a deal paying half of the going rate for lift passes, as there are frequently 2 for 1 offers. School holiday ski deals are often available for a choice of destinations. Sometimes in Andorra, kids get a free lift pass (depending on age and availability).
