Overview: hotel description: Hotel Gran Baita description

The Gran Baita does mountain charm to a T. Slate shingles and carved balconies keep things looking authentic on the outside. And inside, there’s top-to-bottom wood panelling and a proper open fireplace in the snug lounge. The setting's pretty special too – step out onto the sun terrace, and you’ve got views over pines and the rocky peaks beyond.

The décor might be all about that traditional alpine feel, but the facilities are bang up to date – and the sleek spa is the star of the show. Slip on a robe and take in the wintery scenery while you stretch out in the panoramic sauna, then drift away as you float between the connected indoor and outdoor pools. And to really turn the luxury lever up a notch, you can’t beat a beauty treatment or massage. There’s also a games room, which is kitted out with table football, table tennis and plenty of games, so that’s kid-friendly downtime sorted as well.

You’re onto a winner food-wise too. We’re talking hot and cold breakfast buffets with all the trimmings, then evening meals that serve up four courses of top-notch Italian fare – from tasty platters of prosciutto to plates of creamy tagliatelle pasta.

Situated on the North-Western corner of Italy and rubbing shoulders with France and Switzerland, Courmayeur is one of the more popular resorts in the Aosta Valley. Famously founded as a spa town in the 17th Century for its natural outlets of pure alpine water, it became a top destination for the mountaineering community around the 19th century and has maintained its traditional image and beauty ever since. With a car-free village centre, this stylish, family-friendly resort is perfect for anyone who wants a c...
Courmayeur has two main areas: the Chécrouit-Val Veny is by far the biggest, serviced by a cable car from Plan Chérouit, a gondola in Dolonne and a cable car in Entrèves for those staying out of town. The Mont Blanc lift network makes up the second area, which includes the legendary Vallee Blanche. The two ski schools (Societa Guide Alpine Courmayeur and Scuola di Sci) maintain a solid reputation intuition and with a number of blues on either side of the ridge, beginners can experience a variety of terrain....
While this is the ski destination for the natives of Turin and Milan, with shopping to match their tastes including the likes of Cartier and Hermes, this isn’t to say the town is only for the elite. Courmayeur is the perfect place to relax in an armchair with a cocktail and canapés in bars like Prive. Bar Americano is perfect for late-night snacking on crepes, sandwiches and burgers. Roma is also a popular destination – in the past, they’ve given out free canapés with drinks. Courmayeur is a hub of Itali...

We’ve stayed here twice and were very happy (hence why we booked twice). It’s good value for money, good transfer from the airport and great facilities. It’s a really great hotel and for what we paid it would be very hard to beat this! The staff were great, very pleasant. It was a good 4 star delivery and we had a great time. In terms of value for money – it was fantastic. The food and catering was good and we enjoyed it. Courmayeur is a relatively limited resort. We’re not thundering around expecting to ski a hundred miles a day, so we were quite happy with that. Also the restaurants and access were great. The guys doing the transport were very responsive and very good too. What I really liked and thought was a really cool feature, was leaving your skis at the top of the mountain and then coming down the gondola. I mean it’s pretty dull to carry your own skis back to wherever, so that was a really nice add-on and something I’ve never experienced before.
